“青铜器海内三宝”全形拓本齐聚

The "Three Treasures of the Sea" of bronze ware gather in the exhibition hall in the form of full scale expansion

A total of 37 pieces/group of cultural relics were exhibited in this exhibition, mainly the collections of Shanghai Museum, and 6 pieces (divided into 3 pieces/group) of cultural relics were also borrowed from Shanghai Library. The exhibition is divided into three parts: "Practical Techniques for Cultural Inheritance", "Artistic Expressions of Expanding Ink into Paintings", and "Inheritance and Protection of Jinshi Spreading Techniques", presenting the historical development and current protection and application of Jinshi Spreading Techniques.

According to Li Kongrong, the curator of this exhibition and a member of the Bronze Research Department of the Shanghai Museum, the inheritance of gold and stone is a very old traditional skill in China. It used to be a widely used and highly efficient "copy" technology of words and images, which is a practical skill of cultural inheritance. By the late Qing Dynasty, Epigraphy had flourished. With the scholars' research and exchanges in epigraphy, the spread of spreading skills gradually expanded. It not only became the carrier of content "copying", but also became the main body of artistic creation, including the exploration of techniques and the secondary artistic creation with the combination of spreading, painting and other technologies. Nowadays, this technique has become an intangible cultural heritage project, widely used on museum platforms and serving the public.

In the exhibition hall, some rubbings are displayed in contrast with the original ones, and there are many famous works with a clear history, such as the Da Yu ding, Da Ke ding, and Mao Gong ding, the "Three Treasures of Bronze Ware in the Sea"; One of the first complete rubbings produced by Simu Wufang Ding, the largest and heaviest ancient bronze artifact unearthed in China, will also be presented to the audience; Wu Dacheng's Ancient Pictures of Lianzhai Collection and the Picture of Picking the Lamp were exhibited for the first time in comparison with the original objects in the museum collection.

The first exhibit is the "Simu Wufang Ding Rubbings" exhibited in the preface hall. Simuwen square tripod (also known as Houmuwufang tripod) is a bronze ware of the late Shang Dynasty, now in the National Museum of China. This tripod has a magnificent and majestic shape, and is the largest and heaviest ancient bronze artifact unearthed in China. The inscription on the rubbings states that Fang Ding was transported to Nanjing in 1946, and the inscription was signed on December 14, 1949. Based on this, it is speculated that this should be the first batch of complete rubbings produced by Simu Wufang Ding after its excavation in 1939.

Da Yu ding, Da Ke ding and Mao Gong ding, the bronze heavy objects in the Palace Museum in Taipei, are collectively called "Three Treasures in China", and have been collected in three separate places before. In 2021, the Da Yu ding and Da Ke ding briefly reunited in the exhibition hall of the Shanghai Museum in the "Prosperity and Longevity - Shanghai Museum's Special Exhibition of Bronze Ding Gifts". The exhibition also brought together three full-size rubbings of the bronze "Three Treasures in China".

Among them, the Mao Gong ding full form rubbings on display use Chen Jieqi's representative full form paper splitting method. Each part of the body is divided and divided into several parts. When mounting, rubbings at each part are combined into complete figures according to sketches; The Da Yu ding full shape extension on display adopts the full shape extension paper extension method. The ears and feet of the tripod are expanded on a whole paper. The abdomen and plain surface are the later plane extension, showing the artistic expression and characteristics of different propagation techniques.
