The Southern Song Dynasty Nanjing Museum collects (partially) the letters of Zhu Xi and a waiter. The Song Dynasty advocated the rule of literature, which was the golden age of literati. The literati of the Song Dynasty had dual identities as political and cultural subjects, serving as both officials and scholars. The exhibition opens with the themes of "nurturing many scholars", "carving and printing to promote education", and "promoting academic excellence to become an official". It tells the story of the cultivation of literati and officials. Developed educational institutions such as official and private schools in the Song Dynasty cultivated a large number of Confucian scholars, laying the foundation for "governing the country through culture"; The development of Woodblock printing technology has promoted the popularization of culture and the spread of ideas, and has also provided basic conditions for ordinary students in remote mountain villages to promote the literati and officialdom through reading; Confucian scholars who have read a lot of poetry and books have passed the imperial examination and entered the civil service to become literati and officials. The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part discusses the governance of the Song Dynasty's literati with the theme of "governing the world with culture", while the second part showcases the literary and artistic life of the Song Dynasty's literati with the theme of "elegant scholar circles".
