Jin Hou Su Chime

A set of bronze chimes reappears in the human world, bringing historical echoes deep in the tunnel.

The owner of the chime was Su, the Marquis of Jin in the late Western Zhou Dynasty. Because he assisted King Li of Zhou in his own expedition, Jesus carved 355 words of long inscription on the surface of the bell. The two rows of bells arranged according to the rhythm are also linked with inscriptions.

Marquis Su Bell of the Jin Dynasty is composed of 16 Yong Bells, 14 of which are kept in Shanghai Museum and 2 in Shanxi Museum. Wei Xinying, associate research librarian of the Bronze Research Department of the Shanghai Museum, said that the Marquis Su Bell of the Jin Dynasty was composed of three groups of Yongzhong of different times, one group of which was from the late Western Zhou Dynasty, and the other two groups of Yongzhong were earlier than the late Western Zhou Dynasty. Therefore, it can be seen that this set of chimes may have been collected by Duke Su of Jin, or they may have been loot captured during the war.

Jin Hou Su Zhong chose Yongzhong from different eras to synthesize a large group of musical instruments with complete scales. The name of Yongzhong comes from the copper pillar at its top, which is different from the ring-shaped button bell in shape. The part of the percussion is called the "drum", and the front and side are hit with different musical sounds.

From Shang to Zhou, individual cymbals evolved into combined hanging clocks. Huang Zhongda Lv, Jin Shengyu Zhen. The Zhou people made rituals and music, and the elegance of music and dance contrasted with the solemnity of power. Therefore, the early history of Chinese music is closely related to etiquette.

From an exquisite bronze work to a massive chime clock, a highly developed society of etiquette and music has gradually formed. Ring this set of bells, it means singing the glorious epic of Jin. Starting from the Western Zhou Dynasty, bells gradually emerged. At the beginning, they were very simple, that is, to strike. The Zhou people had a need for banquets and sacrifices, but later it gradually became a pursuit of melody changes

Upon careful examination, a bird shaped pattern was also cast on the surface of the clock. The pattern implies the key to using the instrument. Strike the bird pattern to make a sound different from striking a bell from the front; A more crisp side drum sound, like the singing of birds.

"The sound of the side drum is usually Minor third smaller than the sound of the main drum. One bell can make two notes, and 16 can make 32 notes, so it can expand the range." Wei Xinying said that a set of chimes in the late Western Zhou Dynasty could be composed of 16 bells, and then gradually reached the scale of dozens of chimes in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.
