I enjoyed watching the Minbo "Mobei Fengming" exhibition
The "Mobei Fengming" at the Minhang Museum is an exhibition of Ordos style bronze ware. This batch of bronze ware from the pan Ordos region is characterized by animal decoration and exquisite practicality. The time span of the exhibits is quite large, from the Shang and Zhou dynasties to the Spring and Autumn period, the Warring States period, and the Han dynasty. Because their owners are nomadic tribes represented by the Di Xiongnu, most of these artifacts have a strong grassland cultural style.
As soon as you enter the exhibition hall, the first exhibit is the famous Warring States Eagle Crown (this time a replica is displayed), which is the only Xiongnu noble gold crown decoration discovered in China to date. A spreading eagle stands proudly on the hemispherical crown decorated with wolf and sheep bite patterns. The eagle's head is made of Turquoise. The circular forehead pattern below is a rope pattern, with crouching tigers, horses, and sheep at both ends. The whole piece looks magnificent and luxurious, with a king like style.
In the exhibition hall, it can be compared to another golden crown decoration of a woman from a northern ethnic group. Embedded clam gold ornaments, cloud shaped carved flower gold pieces, and long strip shaped gold flower crown bands, these beautiful ornaments should be sewn onto the crown lining, but due to aging, the cloth leather crown body has already decayed. Next to it is a pair of earrings, wrapped in gold and gemstones, with hollow white jade pendants. This kind of gold crown is somewhat similar to the gold flower and leaf crown decoration in Tillya Tepe, Afghanistan, which shows that there was an obvious exchange and integration of culture and art among countries at that time. Another exhibit belonging to the same owner as this set of golden crowns is the iron core wrapped golden crouching lamb ornament. To be precise, the crouching lamb ornament and the cloud shaped belt buckle together should be a female belt buckle. The body is covered with gold and jade, shining brightly, indicating the nobility and grandeur of its status.
The biggest feature of Ordos style bronze ware is the multi animal pattern. After all, the daily life of Nomad on the grassland is to deal with various animals. Various car and horse decorations, pole headgear, knives and daggers, etc., are mostly decorated with various animals, with tigers, deer, horses, cows, and sheep being the majority.
Round carving, relief carving, carving, mold casting, hammering, inlay, and various techniques are presented, making the production exquisite and vivid. The patterns of animal biting and fighting, as well as hunting patterns, have a certain style of Middle Askitai. Carved animals have a distinct Luristan style.
Except for a small portion that is somewhat abstract, animal prints are mostly more realistic. Those Warring States animal patterned gold decorative pieces have smooth lines like flowing clouds and flowing water, and their shapes are a bit exaggerated. There are also pairs of small animals standing opposite each other, with extreme stretching and imbalance in proportion. These somewhat abstract animals look full of tension and artistic sense. Do the two realistic horses look very similar to the horses on the grass outside of Minbo?
