The Bianzhong of Marquis Yi of Zeng of the Warring States Period is a set of large-scale ritual and ceremonial and musical instruments for the monarch of the early Warring States Period. It is a national first-class cultural relic. It was unearthed in Tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng of the Marquis Yi at Leigu Pier in Suixian County, Hubei Province (today's Suizhou) in 1978. It is now in the Hubei Provincial Museum and is the "treasure of town hall" of the museum. 

The Bianzhong of Marquis Yi of Zeng of the Warring States Period is 748 cm long and 265 cm high. There are 65 complete chimes, which are hung in three layers and eight groups on a copper wooden frame in the shape of a curved ruler. The maximum height of the bell is 152.3 cm and its weight is 203.6 kg. It is cast using the method of casting and dividing, using techniques such as copper welding, casting and inlaying, and gold inlaying, as well as decorative techniques such as round carving, relief carving, yin carving, and painting. Each clock can play a double tone in a third degree scale, with a complete set of twelve and a half tones that can be rotated and adjusted. The tone series is the current C major, which can play five, six or seven tone scale music. 

The excavation of Bianzhong of Marquis Yi of Zeng in the Warring States Period has rewritten the world music history. It is the most numerous, best preserved, most complete and most magnificent set of Bianzhong in China so far. It represents the highest achievement of China's pre Qin ritual and music civilization and bronze casting technology, and has had a huge impact in archaeology, history, musicology, science and technology history and other fields, In January 2002, it was listed in the Catalogue of the First Batch of Cultural Relics Prohibited from Going Abroad for Exhibition by the National Cutural Heritage Administration.

Characteristics

The Bianzhong of Marquis Yi of Zeng is 273 cm high, 335 cm wide, and 748 cm long. The largest one is 153.4 cm high and weighs 203.6 kg. The smallest one is 20.4 cm high and weighs 2.4 kg. The total weight of the clock body is 2567 kilograms, plus the copper part of the clock frame (including hooks), totaling 4421.48 kilograms. 

The bell frame of the Bianzhong of Marquis Yi of Zeng Chime Bell is tall and tall. It is vertically intersected by two facades of different lengths. Seven painted wooden beams in the shape of a curved ruler are reinforced at both ends with a dragon like copper sleeve. It is supported by six sword warrior shaped copper columns and eight columns, forming the upper, middle and lower layers. There are 246 clock frames and hooks (including detachable components). 

This set of chimes consists of 65 pieces, divided into three layers and eight groups suspended on the clock frame: the upper three groups are button bells, 19 pieces, and the columns are round wood; The third group in the middle layer is Yongzhong, consisting of 33 pieces, divided into three types: short piece, no piece, and long piece; The lower layer consists of two sets of large long bell bells, consisting of 12 pieces, and one large bell bell. The columns on the middle and lower floors each consist of three bronze swordsmen. The clock frame can be disassembled. The bell shoot, bell hook, and bell body have a total of 3755 words of inscriptions, including numbering, inscriptions, phonetic symbols, and musical rhythms. 

When the chime bells were unearthed, there were six T-shaped painted wooden mallets and two painted wooden sticks nearby, which were used for ringing and striking bells.
